Queste installazioni tematizzano la relazione tra i rituali del divertimento elettronico e quelli della cultura bellica. In ogni video, soldati australiani, americani e talebani sono collocati in scenari ricavati da simulazioni videoludiche e film di propaganda.

These video installations negotiate the relationship between warfare and the performative traditions and rituals of military institutions. In each work, Australian, American, and Taliban soldiers are placed in formal landscapes appropriated from propaganda cinema and combat simulators.

Baden Pailthorpe (australia)

Nato a Canberra, in Australia nel 1984, Baden Pailthorpe è un artista contemporaneo la cui pratica si concentra prevalentemente nel campo dei new media. Pailthorpe esamina l’influenza della cultura, dell'ideologia e della logica militare in ogni sfera dell'esistenza, e in particolare su quella del divertimento. Ha partecipato a oltre sessanta mostre personali e collettive in spazi come il Centre Pompidou di Parigi; NIMk ad Amsterdam; Gaîté Lyrique a Parigi; il Palais de Tokyo a Parigi; ARTSPACE a Sydney, UQ Art Museum a Brisbane e Australian War Memorial a Canberra. Nel 2013, Pailthorpe ha ricevuto un dottorato in New Media Aesthetics dalla UNSW di Sydney. In precedenza, ha conseguito un MFA dall'Université Paris VIII, un MA dal College of Fine Arts, UNSW e un BA dalla University of Sydney. Le sue opere sono raccolte in numerose collezioni pubbliche e private. Vive e lavora a Sidney.

 

 

 

Baden Pailthorpe (b. 1984, Canberra, Australia) is a contemporary artist. Situated predominantly within the field of new media, Pailthorpe’s work increasingly exposes the growing reach and the subtle operations of contemporary militarism, institutions and power. He has participated in over sixty solo and group exhibitions, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, NIMk, Amsterdam, la Gaîté Lyrique, Paris, the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, ARTSPACE, Sydney, the UQ Art Museum, Brisbane and the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. In 2013, Pailthorpe was the inaugural Australia Council artist in residence at the Australian War Memorial. He received a Ph.D in New Media Aesthetics from UNSW, Sydney, holds an MFA in New Media from l’Université Paris VIII; an MA from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW and a BA from the University of Sydney. His work is held in numerous private and public collections. He lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
